Privacy Policy

This policy explains what Best Cosmetology Programs does with information about the people who visit it. The short version is that this is a static reference site about state-licensed cosmetology schools. It has no accounts, no forms, and nothing to log in to, so there is very little for it to collect.

What this site collects automatically

Automatic collection here is limited to what any web server records when it sends you a page. Our hosting provider keeps standard request logs, which typically include:

• Your IP address, and the approximate region it resolves to
• The browser and operating system making the request
• The page requested, and the page that referred you to it
• The date and time of the request

Those logs exist to keep the site running and to identify abuse. We do not use them to build a profile of you, and we do not combine them with information from anywhere else.

What this site stores in your browser

Storage in your browser amounts to one item. When you use the light and dark toggle, your choice is saved in local storage under the key theme so the site does not flash the wrong colors on your next visit. It is not a cookie, it is never sent to us or to anyone else, and clearing your browser data removes it.

We do not currently run analytics, advertising tags, session recording, or any other third-party script. The built pages request nothing from an outside server. If we add analytics later, this page will describe it before it goes live.

Information you send us

Anything you send us arrives by email, because there is no contact form on this site. If you write to us we hold your message and your address for as long as it takes to deal with what you asked about, and we use it for nothing else. We do not add correspondents to a mailing list.

Who we share information with

Sharing is limited to our hosting provider, which processes requests on our behalf in order to serve the site, and to anyone we are legally required to disclose to under a valid legal process. That is the whole list.

We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it with the schools listed on this site. Program listings here link straight to the institution. We do not pass your details to a school, and no school is told that you looked at its page.

Links to schools and other sites

Every school on this site is linked to its own pages, its accreditor record, and where it exists its published outcome table. Following one of those links takes you onto a site we do not control and whose privacy practices are its own. Many university sites do run analytics and advertising trackers. Read their policies before you send them anything.

How long we keep things

Retention follows purpose. Server logs are kept only as long as our host retains them for operational and security reasons. Email correspondence is kept while it is useful for handling your request and deleted when it is not, unless we are required to keep it for longer.

Your rights over your information

Your rights depend on where you live, and in several places, including the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, and California, they include the following:

• Asking what personal information we hold about you
• Asking us to correct information that is wrong
• Asking us to delete information we hold
• Objecting to a particular use of your information

Write to help@hakia.com to exercise any of them. Given how little we hold, the honest answer to most requests will be that we have nothing beyond the email you sent us.

Children and this site

Children are not the audience here. This site is aimed at people choosing a graduate program, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has sent us information, write to help@hakia.com and we will delete it.

Changes to this policy

This policy will change if our practices do, and the last updated date above moves with the files behind the page rather than being typed in by hand. Substantive changes will be described here rather than made quietly.
