Cosmetology Schools in Fort Worth, TX, Ranked (2026)

Published

Edited by Zoe MacDougall, BS in Psychology

Ten cosmetology schools in Fort Worth and the towns around it report completion figures to the federal government, and that is what the list below ranks. Only one of the ten has a Fort Worth address. The rest sit 9 to 27 miles out, in Hurst, Arlington, Bedford, Grand Prairie, Irving, Lewisville and Dallas. Three more were too small to rank.

The Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation lists 17 licensed schools at Fort Worth addresses, and none of them turn up in the federal file. That is normal. Most beauty schools are clock-hour schools that never reported to it in the first place. So your real shortlist is longer than this ranking, and the ranking is where the outcome numbers live.

Figures in this section: Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation; BLS OEWS, May 2025; College Scorecard, June 2026.

The 10 Cosmetology Schools in and Near Fort Worth, Ranked on Completion

13 cosmetology programs report to the US Department of Education from inside Fort Worth or within 30 miles of downtown. 10 of them had at least 40 students and a published completion figure, and they are ordered on the share of students who finish within half again the program's normal length. The other 3 had too few students to rank, so the list stops at 10.

Where a school's board record was matched, the card carries it. A school that appears here without one is not unlicensed; it means the board's file and the federal file did not agree on its name, and the Texas page links the board's own lookup.

    Where it leads

Around Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington, the median cosmetologist earns $33,960, the bottom tenth $26,560 and the top tenth $60,150. The metro median is about 11 percent above the Texas figure. 70%

    • Associate degree
    • 2 graduates a year
    • $35,200 program cost

    What the record shows

Based in Dallas, MediaTech Institute-Dallas is one of the cosmetology programs the federal government tracks. 70 percent of students across the school finish, out of 199 enrolled, and cosmetology is one of the programs inside that figure. That 70 percent is ordinary for this page, and it belongs to the whole campus; ask the cosmetology department for the program's own figure. Tuition is reported at $35,200. That price is roughly 2.2 times the $15,700 median, and nothing on this record explains the premium. 2 credentials in a year means the cosmetology program barely ran; ask whether it is enrolling this term before anything else. Graduates leave with an associate degree, not the usual certificate, and the general-education credits behind it can count toward a bachelor's later. Look this school up on the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation register by its legal name before you pay, because that entry and not this one is what makes your hours count.

    Where it leads

Half of cosmetologists around Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington earn under $33,960, with the tenth percentile at $26,560 and the ninetieth at $60,150. Against the state as a whole, the metro runs roughly 11 percent higher on median pay. The upside is capped near 1.8 times the median and the floor is 22 percent under it, a market where the first year is tight rather than dangerous and the ceiling is earned slowly. Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington employs the trade at close to the national rate, around 6,630 people.

On completion and price it is close to the median school on this page, 67 percent against 68 and $15,750 against $15,700, which is neither a warning nor a recommendation: the choice comes down to the visit and the board file. 48%

    Share of students who finish

    • Cosmetology
    • Renews 2027-01
    • $15,185 program cost

    What the record shows

Michael's Barber & Hair Stylist Academy operates in Irving under license from the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation. The license here is a barber license, which means men's cutting, shaving and beard work. It takes a similar hour count to cosmetology and is a narrower ticket, and for someone who already knows they want that end of the trade, the narrowness is the point. 48 percent of students see the course through, out of 42 enrolled. Tuition is reported at $15,185 for the full program. Completion is the one figure that compares across trades, and 48 percent, 20 points under the 68 percent median, is the first thing to ask about. $15,185 is within 4 percent of the $15,700 median for a similar hour count, which is the going rate. 31 students completed a credential here in the reporting year. The board files it under license 705767; that record, not this one, is what makes your hours count.

    Where it leads

Half of barbers around Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington earn under $33,000, with the tenth percentile at $29,550 and the ninetieth at $81,660. There is almost no distance between entry pay and the middle, and a great deal between the middle and the top, so the first year is predictable and the tenth is what you make of it. Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington carries roughly 2.0 times the national concentration of this work, among the denser markets in the country.

Other Licensed Cosmetology Schools in Fort Worth

Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation lists 17 currently licensed schools in Fort Worth. None of them appear above, either because the school takes no federal aid and so reports no completion figure, or because its cohort was too small to rank. Being on this list means the board licenses the school, which is the thing that makes your hours count. The board's file also holds 4 Fort Worth records that are no longer active, which is why the roster is longer than this table.

What Texas Requires Before Your Fort Worth Hours Count

Texas has no cosmetology board. The job sits inside the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, which regulates barbering and cosmetology together under one agency. TDLR sets 1,000 hours of training for a cosmetologist license. Those hours only count if the school held a current license while you were sitting in it.

Half of those hours, 500 of them, can be done online in Texas. The other 500 happen in person at the school. If you are working days, that split is the most useful thing on this page, and the online hour rules by state show how Texas compares.

TDLR publishes an expiration date for every school license but no status word, so a lapsed school looks like a date that has gone by rather than a warning. Four Fort Worth records had already passed theirs in the file we pulled on August 28, 2026. That is worth a check before you sign anything, which is why we count lapsed licenses state by state.

Figures in this section: Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation.

What the Fort Worth Ranking Actually Shows

TDLR's file is a roster, not a rating. It says a school was licensed, not how many of its students got through, so the order below is the federal completion figure. Ogle School Hair Skin Nails-Ft Worth leads at 82 percent with 500 students enrolled, $15,700 tuition and $7,917 median debt, and it conferred 354 cosmetology credentials in the reporting year, the most of the ten.

Ogle's Hurst campus is second at 75 percent, nine miles out, same $15,700 tuition on 273 students. The Salon Professional Academy-Lewisville sits third on a completion figure a hair lower, but it is 27 miles from Fort Worth and $16,750. Ogle's Arlington campus is fourth at 72 percent on 374 students.

Price and completion do not move together here. DuVall's School of Cosmetology in Bedford is the cheapest ranked option at $11,400, twelve miles out, and its median earnings five years after entry, $28,970, are the highest of the ten. It finishes 57 percent of its students, well behind Ogle.

Because the ranking reaches across the metro, the Dallas and Arlington pages carry several of the same schools from the other side. If none of the ten works for you, the Texas ranking covers the whole state.

What Hair and Skin Work Pays in Dallas-Fort Worth

Fort Worth does not get its own wage series. BLS reports one set of figures for the Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington metro, which means these numbers cover Dallas and Arlington too. Hairdressers, hairstylists and cosmetologists here earn a median of $33,960, against $30,680 across Texas, and the metro employs 6,630 of the state's 22,440 hairdressers.

The spread says more than the median does. The bottom tenth of the metro's hairdressers make $26,560 and the top tenth clear $60,150. And BLS surveys employers, so booth renters and chair renters are not counted at all, which in this trade is a lot of people. Read the median as an employed stylist's number.

Two trades do better here than hair. Barbers are twice as concentrated in this metro as they are nationally, 790 employed, with the top tenth at $81,660. Skincare specialists post a $54,290 median against $49,250 statewide, and their 90th percentile is $106,760.
