Cosmetology Schools in Arlington, TX, Ranked (2026)

Published

Edited by Zoe MacDougall, BS in Psychology

Fifteen cosmetology schools in Arlington and the mid-cities around it report completion figures to the federal government, and that is what the list below ranks. Only two of the fifteen have an Arlington address: Ogle School Hair Skin Nails-Arlington, two miles out, and Paul Mitchell the School-Arlington, four. Eight more schools in reach were too small to rank.

The state roster tells the opposite story. The Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation lists 25 licensed schools at Arlington addresses, and 19 of them never appear in the federal file, which is ordinary for clock-hour schools. Two more Arlington records had already passed their expiration date. So the shortlist in town is far longer than this ranking.

Figures in this section: Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation; BLS OEWS, May 2025; College Scorecard, June 2026.

The 15 Cosmetology Schools in and Near Arlington, Ranked on Completion

23 cosmetology programs report to the US Department of Education from inside Arlington or within 30 miles of downtown. 15 of them had at least 40 students and a published completion figure, and they are ordered on the share of students who finish within half again the program's normal length. The other 8 had too few students to rank, so the list stops at 15.

Where a school's board record was matched, the card carries it. A school that appears here without one is not unlicensed; it means the board's file and the federal file did not agree on its name, and the Texas page links the board's own lookup.

    70%

    • Associate degree
    • 2 graduates a year
    • $35,200 program cost

    What the record shows

Based in Dallas, MediaTech Institute-Dallas is one of the cosmetology programs the federal government tracks. 70 percent of students across the school finish, out of 199 enrolled, and cosmetology is one of the programs inside that figure. That 70 percent is ordinary for this page, and it belongs to the whole campus; ask the cosmetology department for the program's own figure. Tuition is reported at $35,200. That price is roughly 2.2 times the $15,700 median, and nothing on this record explains the premium. 2 credentials in a year means the cosmetology program barely ran; ask whether it is enrolling this term before anything else. Graduates leave with an associate degree, not the usual certificate, and the general-education credits behind it can count toward a bachelor's later. Look this school up on the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation register by its legal name before you pay, because that entry and not this one is what makes your hours count.

    Where it leads

Pay for cosmetologists around Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington runs from $26,560 at the tenth percentile to $60,150 at the ninetieth, with a median of $33,960. The metro median is about 11 percent above the Texas figure. Neither end of this market is extreme: the top tenth earns about 1.8 times the median and the floor sits 22 percent under it, which makes the first year a budget question rather than a survival one. The occupation is about as common around Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington as it is nationally.

Completion is the one figure that compares across trades, and 48 percent, 22 points under the 70 percent median, is the first thing to ask about. $15,185 is within 4 percent of the $15,700 median for a similar hour count, which is the going rate. 31 students completed a credential here in the reporting year. The board files it under license 705767; that record, not this one, is what makes your hours count.

    Where it leads

Around Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington, the median barber earns $33,000, the bottom tenth $29,550 and the top tenth $81,660. The floor is almost the median here, so the whole spread is above it, and it belongs to people with a book. The trade is unusually concentrated around Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington, about 2.0 times the national rate, so there are more chairs to compete for and more to be hired into.

Other Licensed Cosmetology Schools in Arlington

Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation lists 25 currently licensed schools in Arlington. These 19 appear above, either because the school takes no federal aid and so reports no completion figure, or because its cohort was too small to rank. Being on this list means the board licenses the school, which is the thing that makes your hours count. The board's file also holds 2 Arlington records that are no longer active, which is why the roster is longer than this table.

The 1,000-Hour Rule and the 25 Licensed Schools in Arlington

Texas has no cosmetology board. The Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation absorbed it and now regulates barbering and cosmetology together. TDLR sets 1,000 hours for a cosmetologist license, and up to 500 of those, half the course, can be done online. For anyone working days in Arlington, that split is usually what decides whether the thing is possible at all.

The roster is thick in Arlington. Twenty-five licensed schools carry Arlington addresses, from lash academies to the AISD Career & Tech Center, the one high school program among them. Nineteen of the 25 never show up in the federal completion file, and that is not a mark against them. Most beauty schools are clock-hour institutions that were never in it.

One caution about that roster. Nine of the 25 rows are Ogle School Hair Skin Nails licenses, which is what a mailing address does to this file. TDLR records where the license mail goes, not where the classroom is, so Texas city grouping is approximate. The agency also publishes an expiration date and no status word, which is why we count lapsed licenses by date.

Arlington's Mid-Cities Commute Beats the Drive to Dallas

Ogle School Hair Skin Nails-Arlington is the closest ranked option at two miles, finishing 72 percent of 374 students at $15,700 with median debt of $7,917. Paul Mitchell the School-Arlington is four miles out at 62 percent of 360 students for $14,835, with $9,516 in median debt. Those are the only two ranked schools in town.

The mid-cities are the short drives after that. Tint School of Makeup and Cosmetology-Dallas is actually in Grand Prairie, six miles away at $15,750. Ogle's Hurst campus is eight miles and finishes 75 percent. DuVall's School of Cosmetology in Bedford is nine miles, the cheapest of the near options at $11,400, and posts the highest median earnings on the list at $28,970.

The top of the ranking is a longer haul. ABC Beauty Academy in Richardson leads at 86 percent, but that is 28 miles and on 52 students, a thin base for a percentage. Ogle School Hair Skin Nails-Ft Worth is second at 82 percent on 500 students, 18 miles out. Weigh 1,000 hours of that drive against the difference in the figure.

Nothing in the Texas file puts these schools in order. TDLR publishes license type and an expiration date, no rating and no outcome, so the ordering here is the federal completion figure. Because the list reaches across the metro, the Dallas and Fort Worth pages carry several of the same schools, and the Texas ranking holds the rest.

Arlington Shares One Wage Series with Dallas and Fort Worth

BLS does not report Arlington on its own. It reports the Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington metro as one area, so the pay figures here are the same ones Dallas and Fort Worth carry. The school lists are not. The metro employs 6,630 hairdressers, hairstylists and cosmetologists at a median of $33,960, against $30,680 across Texas.

The floor matters more than the median in this trade. The metro's bottom tenth of hairdressers earns $26,560 against $23,580 statewide, so the first year out is worth about $3,000 more here than elsewhere in Texas. The top tenth reaches $60,150, and getting there is a matter of a client book rather than a better first job.

Two trades beat hair here. Skincare specialists post a median of $54,290 across 1,620 people, with a top tenth of $106,760 and a bottom tenth of $28,440, close to four to one inside one job title. Esthetician pay sets that against the national figures. Barbers are twice as concentrated here as nationally, 790 employed, top tenth $81,660.

Nail work runs the other way. The metro's 1,500 manicurists and pedicurists sit at 0.38 of the national concentration, at a median of $33,800 with a bottom tenth of $18,950. And every figure on this page counts wage and salary employees, so booth renters, who are a large share of this trade, are outside the survey.
